The death of Khaled Mohamed Saeed has been a focal point of the Egyptian revolution which ended 30 years of rule by Hosni Mubarak. Never before has the middle east been rocked by such a mass uprising inspired by the death of an individual. The death of Khaled Mohamed Saeed inspired Wael Ghonim to start a Facebook page titled “We all are Khalid Said”. This Facebook page served as a platform to galvanize support for the cause of freedom.
Thousands of people pledged support for the cause and took to streets demanding a change in rule and establishment of democracy. The whole world watched as the ‘Facebook Generation’ forced a change with very little bloodshed. Egypt as a nation has a vital Geo-Political impact on the Western World. It’s strong ties with US and Israel meant that both countries were in a very tight spot.
The biggest impact of the Egyptian revolution has been the fact that now people of the arab world are hoping that they too could have a shot at democracy if they come together. This has led to an uprising in Libiya and yemen. Both countries with large oil reserves and a potential to impact world economy on a big scale. Only the coming months will tell us the true impact of the Egyptian revolution but the start does seem promising.
